Poppy’s Dream Houses

Today’s images are not my usual diorama style. Instead, I used the same method I did for Queen Poppy of Nabu so I could showcase some of the “new” outfits I’ve picked up for the Poppys.

First, I still can’t get World at Her Feet Poppy out of the Hollywood Hostess outfit. Hollywood Hostess is one of my all-time faves and I have to soak it for all I can! I promise eventually I’ll get World at Her Feet Poppy into another outfit! LOL!

Snow Stopper Poppy is back and this time she’s swingin’ the vintage Francie (Barbie’s® ‘MOD’ern cousin!) Vested Interest outfit (#1224 for all you product number geeks!)

IT Airways Poppy is gracing herself with pieces from a Kari Michell Designer’s Choice multi-outfit pack:

Finally, Gold Snap Poppy is wearing the lovely La Boutique Designer Fashion #35.

While I’m on La Boutique, I want to give a major shout out to Sharon who runs Abby s Doll House and goes under srbarbie30891 on Ebay . Not only is she a gem to deal with, but she’s super nice as well. I’ve gotten several older La Boutique outfits from her, all in absolutely pristine condition.  She still has several older La Boutique outfits at her store if anybody wants to snatch them up. Since these are hand made and limited edition they aren’t available all the time, and it’s smart to get the ones you like when you see them.

With all of that said, we return to Our Story Thus Far:

After their happy night in, the Poppy’s each went their separate ways, back to their Dream Houses where they started planning their next Big Mission under the commands of Madame H.

Without further ado, please enjoy Poppy’s Dream Houses! (with musical accompaniment)

Girl’s Night In

Today’s diorama showcases the classic retro color combination of olive green and orange.

In addition, a new Poppy enters the scene: Poppy Parker IT Airways.

Instead of her groovy stewardess outfit, IT Poppy sports a groovy 2008 La Boutique paisley outfit.

Gold Snap Poppy also dons a La Boutique tartan outfit called “Burberry”.

World at her feet Poppy wears the classic 2007 Hollywood Hostess Silkstone Barbie outfit.

Barefoot in the Park Poppy wears a beautiful OOAK hand knit sweater made by the Polish doll seamstress Milenakarolina, whose work can be gotten at her Ebay shop.

For the Settee with the floating cushions, I was inspired by the following miniature from Multiforminiatures, who sells on Etsy.

I previously discussed the other two furniture pieces, the Mel Smilow lounge chair and the Pearsall Slim Jim Chair.  All three furniture pieces used the olive Kona Cotton Fabric from Robert Kaufman (all the Kona colors can be found here and here).

The TV in this diorama is a 1950s Westinghouse promotional pencil holder that advertised their, at the time, new Capri TV.

Unbelievably, I found a YouTube video showing exactly this TV to use as my color reference.

Finally, this wonderful Annie Morrison lamp was used:

With all that said, we can get to our story thus far…

“Poppy now knew she was being spied on. When she called a meeting of her fellow Poppys, they considered going out to paint the town red in an attempt to flush out the spy.  Instead they decided to meet at Poppy’s house and stay in for an intimate evening of martinis, cocktails, high fashion, and gossip.”

The First Among Them

This post is special for me because I get to show off my new grail Poppy Parker called Summer Magic. This was the first Poppy made. Not only is she the first, I find her one of the most beautiful too.

For this diorama, I made a new furniture piece, a 1/6 scale Mel Smilow Walnut Case Lounge Chair.  If you want a real one, you can get it here for a mere $1950! Mine is not exactly the same proportions since I scaled mine to allow Poppy to sit with her feet flat on the ground.

For the outfits, one of them is an OOAK outfit from a Russian doll seamstress I found recently on eBay named yana_k_83 (link to her Ebay shop). I loved the retro feel and the colors of this outfit!

Summer Magic Poppy’s outfit comes from the 1997 Barbie Millicent Roberts Collection called Gallery Opening. This was an exclusive for members of the Official Barbie Collector’s Club back then but can now be gotten easily on Ebay.

Finally, I’ve seen photos where people have dolls or dollhouses for their 1/6 scale dolls. This is a cool idea and I wanted to copy it. I discovered the 1999 Hallmark Keepsake Barbie Christmas Ornaments that scale almost perfectly to 1/6th of the 1/6th scale!  The one I chose is the first Barbie, so that also plays into the title of this diorama.

So…without further ado, let’s get to our story thus far..

After waking from her exotic dreams, Poppy invited some friends over for a visit. However, something was odd…a small visitor…a spy perhaps?

Please enjoy The First Among Them (with musical accompaniment if you wish)…
